The workshop was an accompanying event to our exhibition [?@5] at Typospot (@typospot_). During the workshop, we collaboratively drew individual characters into grids composed of several sections. Just like the exhibition itself, the concept was based on the Exquisite Corpse principle, so we never knew what the person before us had drawn.
The drawings made during the workshops were later digitized into a font for the worshop participants. (And maybe for everyone later? wink wink)
Letter relay was our first ever workshop. Everyone had 3 minutes to draw one letter and then passed the notebook to a person on their left in thw circle. The following person saw only the letter the one before them had drawn and started their own, which they‘d pass on. Just like a relay or the whisper game „telephone“. The outcome? Very diversified hotchpotch of glyphs, where the letters are gradually changing on their trip from A to Z.
Collective try-out of an online grid tool for drawing fonts. Everyone made a whole alphabet of ornaments which can be used for illustrations and crazy borders.
[?@5] was an exhibition at Typospot, which was based on the principle of the Exquisite Corpse game: we were all in different places, at different times, but creating together. We shared one artboard, but each of us saw only what the previous member had created before us. After completing our part, and before passing it on to the next member, we marked the date, place, time, and signed our name.
If one of us failed, the whole thing failed. The main idea of the exhibition was to show that it was truly possible for us to collaborate across long distances.
In collaboration with Roleta2 we designed, printed and sewn diaries with custom covers from each of us. We‘ve been manifesting for 2025 that nobody is struck by a burnout!!!
