Hopik started from a circular shape found ina piece of lettering on a tombstone. The shape became the basis for the whole typeface, with the letter O remaining a perfect circle. Its name comes from the Czech word hopík, meaning a small bouncing ball. The different widths of the letters, the shorter letter i, and the almost equal height of the lowercase and uppercase create a stretched, bouncy rhythm throughout the text.
